OnStream’s innovative and wirelessly connected smart meters enable consumers to have more control over their energy consumption and supports the benefits of smart grids.
OnStream, a National Grid company, provides gas and electricity metering solutions across the UK. The company’s new mobile communications-based meters enable low levels of power consumption and include the ability to communicate with smart appliances leading to the formation of the smart grid.
Telenor Connexion, the world leader in premium M2M solutions for business and life critical applications, has been working alongside OnStream for over 24 months, providing the connectivity for the new OnStream smart meters. The collaboration for the smart metering roll-out in the UK included development and extensive piloting in multiple markets.
Keith Hawkins, Strategy and Smart Development Manager, OnStream, says:
“Connectivity will be a key element to success in the smart roll-out and therefore, Telenor Connexion, renowned for their coverage and reliability, was the logical choice for the future commercial roll-out of our smart metering offering. We selected Telenor due to their consistent and proactive support as well as their high level of technical knowledge and operational flexibility.”
“OnStream’s high quality solution will play a part in the development of smart metering deployment in the UK over the coming years. The new connected smart meters are significant in the development towards making smart grids a reality”, says Dean Woods, Head of Region UK & Ireland at Telenor Connexion.
“We are delighted to be working with OnStream, who share our commitment to providing the highest levels of customer service and innovative energy solutions in an efficient, reliable and safe manner, says Per Simonsen”, CEO at Telenor Connexion.
At the European Smart Metering Awards earlier this year OnStream was awarded both “Metering Manufacturer & Technology of the Year” and “Innovation of the Year” for their connected smart meters.
OnStream has already installed more than 95,000 smart meters in homes and businesses throughout the UK and National Grid plays a vital role in providing energy to millions of customers across Great Britain and the Northeast US.
