Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global IoT solutions provider, and MediaTek have announced that the globally certified Quectel RG620T 5G module, based on the MediaTek T830 platform, and MediaTek BE7200 Wi-Fi7 modules, based on the MediaTek Wi-Fi7 chipset, have been adopted for mass commercial roll-out in Australia.

This deployment is the first commercial, massive volume production use case for the RG620T and will bring 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) to end users across Australia.

The Quectel RG620T is a series of 5G Sub-6GHz modules designed to support IoT and extended mobile broadband (eMBB) use cases. The module offers maximum data rates over 5G standalone networks of 7.01Gbps downlink and 2.5Gbps uplink. For non-standalone networks, the module offers data rate of 5.67Gbps downlink and 1.46Gbps uplink. Measuring 44.0 x 53.0 x 2.95mm, the module has an operating temperature range of -30 °C to +70 °C, with extended temperature variants also available. In addition, the module can be customized to meet the requirements of specific carriers.

The Quectel RG620T has been developed with carriers’ FWA needs in mind with use cases such as customer premise equipment, home and enterprise gateways and mobile hotspots prioritized. The MediaTek T830 system on chip has been selected because it features four high-performance ARM Cortex-A55 CPUs and can provide customer premise equipment with additional CPU capacity inside the modem. The MediaTek platform also allows for maximized cost effectiveness because the chipset is matched with a Wi-Fi solution thereby reducing cost if purchased at the same time. In addition, the MediaTek platform allows for cellular and Wi-Fi to co-exist in the same device, broadening its appeal and applicability.

Wi-Fi 7 offers a significant advancement in wireless technology, providing a multitude of benefits to consumers. One of its key advantages is higher throughput, which means faster data transfer speeds for streaming, gaming, and other online activities. This is complemented by the ability to handle more concurrent users without compromising the network’s performance, making it ideal for busy households or public spaces with many connected devices. Additionally, WiFi 7 boasts higher bandwidth, enabling the seamless handling of high-demand applications and services. It also integrates 5G capabilities, allowing users to leverage the strengths of both 5G and WiFi 7 for more innovative and demanding application scenarios.

The T830’s 3TX and 8RX features fully comply with tier-one carrier roadmap and requirement. Quectel can also provide a module for the requirement for these features.

The RG620T series is the first 5G module based on the MediaTek T830 System-on-Chip (SoC) to receive all these certifications. The certifications will enable customers to efficiently deploy their 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) devices around the globe.

Up to 7.01 Gbps download speeds

Compliant with the 3GPP Release 16 standard, the RG620T module supports up to 300 MHz downlink bandwidth and NR 4CA (four-carrier aggregation) in FDD and TDD modes, allowing 5G devices with this module inside to achieve download speeds of up to 7.01 Gbps. Additionally, the RG620T supports up to 200 MHz uplink bandwidth and NR 2CA, enabling uplink speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps.

The high bandwidth and low latency features make the RG620T especially suitable for innovative 5G use cases such as eXtended reality (XR) and cloud live broadcast. Its high bandwidth enables real-time wireless transmission of high-definition XR content, while the low-latency feature effectively reduces dizziness caused by image lag, and therefore provides an immersive experience for users.

The MediaTek T830 platform embedded in Quectel’s RG620T module integrates a quad-core Cortex-A55 CPU with a base frequency of 2.2 GHz. It also has a built-in M80 5G modem which adopts MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave technologies to ensure optimal energy efficiency for all 5G connection conditions. These powerful features make sure that 5G devices using the RG620T can take advantage of the CPU’s residual performance, improve processing efficiency while reducing costs.

Another significant benefit is that the SoC chipset solution does not need a host controller, allowing customers to reduce the debugging workload of USB or PCIe interfaces and ensuring that the module’s high throughput rate is not restricted by the USB or PCIe interface.

8RX for enhanced wireless performance

The RG620T series also integrate multiple interfaces including USXGMII, PCIe 4.0, PCIe 3.0 and USB3.2 in order to facilitate customer designs.

Flexible Wi-Fi 7 combinations

Besides cellular communication, the RG620T offers multiple Wi-Fi combinations including tri-band/dual-band 4×4 Wi-Fi 7 solution for 5G CPE, dual-band 2×2 Wi-Fi 7 for 5G mobile hotspots. The flexible offerings allow FWA terminals to leverage both 5G and Wi-Fi 7 capabilities and helps customers explore more pioneering application scenarios such as 4K/8K video transmission, VR/AR, cloud gaming, remote work, video conference as well as cloud computing. The module also features EasyMesh, making it easy to set up a mesh network with different IoT devices for seamless wireless connections. Its support of WPA3 R3 encryption protocol brings a higher level of safety to IoT devices.

High-bandwidth 5G connectivity is a plug-and-play solution for retail and restaurant applications.

KORE, the global pure-play Internet of Things (“IoT”) hyperscaler, and provider of IoT Connectivity, Solutions and Analytics, has announced the launch of its new vertical offering in retail solutions.

The retail industry is rapidly undergoing a digital transformation, and KORE has aligned its portfolio to offer high-bandwidth solutions to meet these needs.

The KORE Retail solution includes high bandwidth 5G cellular connectivity through fixed wireless access (FWA) to provide high-speed internet access traditionally available through wireline solutions.
